The Commission on Restitution and Land Rights compensated and resolved 71 212 cases out of the 80 000 claims they have received since its inception in 1994.
The Commission on Restitution and Land Rights was established in line with the Restitution of Land Rights Act in 1994 (Act No. 22 of 1994) to help redistribute land to claimants who lost land due to racially motivated Natives Land Act of 1913.
By the end of 31 December 2016 the Commission on Restitution and Land Rights spent almost R12 billion on approximately 2 million recipients of land.
Joining us this morning is Nomfundo Gobodo, the Chief Land Claims Commissioner.
