The Australian government has agreed to compensate almost 2000 asylum seekers and refugees held at its offshore prison camp on Manus Island.

Detainees were seeking damages for allegedly suffering physical and psychological injuries at the detention centre.

The decision is said to be the largest human rights settlement in Australian legal history.
