Bolivia nut shortage crisis forces many into poverty

The Brazil nut is Bolivia’s most important organic export product. Nearly 25 million tons are exported mainly to Brazil, the United States and Europe every year.

But massive deforestation and a lack of rainfall allegedly caused by climate change have seriously affected this year’s harvest, causing thousands of families to struggle to make ends meet.

Al Jazeera’s Mariana Sanchez reports from northern Bolivia.
