Fears as Indonesiaphases out iconic taxi Bemo

Jakarta’s government is phasing out an iconic mode of public transportation in the capital.

The “Bemo” is a three-wheeled, open-air mini-truck. It was first imported to Indonesia in the 1960s to ferry athletes around during the Asian Games.

More than five decades later, officials say the Bemo creates too much pollution for the environment.

A Bemo driver in Jakarta tells Al Jazeera how he is worried about his future.
