June 14, 2017 5:47 pm

Days before the second round of France’s parliamentary election, President Emmanuel Macron’s administration is facing a political scandal.

A French newspaper claims the man he tasked with cleaning up politics, Justice Minister Francois Bayrou, incorrectly paid an assistant with EU funds.

The allegations come as Bayrou is trying to pass a new law to tackle corruption.

Al Jazeera’s David Chater reports from Paris.
