Hundreds of migrants were rescued from boats, off the Libyan coast on Sunday. According to a statement released by the Italian coast guard, around 730 migrants had been rescued from three rubber boats and four wooden vessels by mid Sunday afternoon. Reports say that there has been an increase in the number of migrant attempting the sea crossing between Libya and Italy in the past weeks. Italy’s interior ministry said last week that more than 65,000 migrants had arrived in the country- an increase of almost 18 percent from the same period last year. Charity organization Save the Children says rescuers are now straining, especially given the limited number of rescue boats, with restricted holding capacities.
