The latest figures from the Department of Education show that Gauteng is facing an uphill with school pregnancy. About 4 446 pupils fell pregnant in 2016 with 40 of the young expectant mothers still in primary school. The report further shows that 1 learner fell pregnant in Grade 5, 7 in Grade 6 and 32 in Grade 7. Just to add a national picture on this matter, According to the 2015 annual school survey, over 15,000 pupils fell pregnant during the academic year.
