Former ESKOM Board Chairperson Dr Ben Ngubane resigned with immediate effect on Monday night. This a few weeks after Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown instructed the ESKOM Board to rescind the reappointment of Brian Molefe as CEO. Dr Ngubane has been on the spotlight since the release of the State of Capture Report last year. The Report mentions Ngubane’s name twice with regards to alleged improper dealings. The Gupta email-leaks reveal that his passport and invoices were forwarded to Rajesh Gupta in 2013, for a chartered flight to the Central African Republic. The flight is alleged to have been for members of Ngubane’s company Gade Oil and Gas, who were investigating a huge oil and gas deal there. Meanwhile, the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises is set to commence a full-scale parliamentary inquiry into ESKOM. For her part, Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane says she will request National Treasury for more funds to help with the Gupta emails-related investigations.
