According to the UN-HABITAT, up to 1.2 billion people in Africa will reside in urban centers by 2030, and this number is expected to rapidly increase in the years after. Urbanization has dramatically changed energy consumption patterns, water and sanitation needs, food security and the mobility of human beings. And with these changes, Africa’s cities face unprecedented challenges arising from the inability to cater to the demands of urban settlers. So in what ways can governments on the continent harness ICTs to make better decisions around resource allocation and service delivery?
And how can Africa’s urban areas reinvent themselves to become more safe, sustainable, and smart cities in Africa?
