A voice text message, as well as a voice note warning about a total blackout across South Africa, is sowing panic as Eskom continues to implement rotational load shedding. Neither message has been communicated through official channels and the origins of the messages could be confirmed by IOL.
Although Eskom has not responded to enquiries about the veracity of these claims, members of the public are advised to be cautious of messages of this nature as they are often disseminated by purveyors of fake news.

In recent days South Africans have again been subjected to load shedding, which Eskom had previously vowed was a thing of the past. The utility has previously said that the power cuts are as a result of a shortage of generating capacity which it is working to resolve.
Currently, most of the country is experiencing Stage 2 rotational power cuts between 9 am in the morning and 10 pm at night.  The situation is likely to continue at least until the end of the week.
