Durban – Two females are lucky to be alive after a palm tree fell onto their car earlier today on the Millennium Bridge in Umhlanga.
According to Kyle van Reenen from Marshall Security, the elderly woman and her domestic were travelling from Umhlanga to Somerset Park at around lunch time when she crashed into the palm tree.
The palm tree fell onto the car, trapping both women in.
Van Reenen said when they arrived on scene other emergency services were also on scene.

“The  jaws of life were used to cut them free from the wreckage.  Both women were treated on scene and stabilized using Intermediate life support intervention before being taken to a hospital for further care.”
Van Reenen said both were lucky to be alive.

The scene is still active and the clean up operation is expected to take another hour.  People are urged to used alternative routes.
