Michael Masutha on the Duduzane Zuma debacle

Prominent South Africans have been asking if it was really necessary for Duduzane Zuma, the son of former President Jacob Zuma, to appear in foot shackles in court recently on corruption charges. Earlier on this show we spoke to the Hawks and asked if this was petty or political. The elite police unit said that it was simply procedure at the Commercial Crimes Court in Johannesburg, where all alleged offenders were chained. But the shackles scandal has a new twist. Justice and Correctional Services Minister, Michael Masutha, has told the SABC that Zuma should not have been shackled and authorities seem to have failed to properly apply the rules. He’s gone further to say that the building that house the commercial crimes court were never designed to handle accused offenders. The Minister joins us.
