A large warehouse fire has closed major roads in north London, prompting warnings of severe disruption to morning rush-hour traffic.

The eastbound North Circular in Neasden is closed near to its junction with the M1 as about 70 firefighters tackle the blaze at a commercial building.

Transport for London (TfL) said the westbound Staples Corner Flyover and southbound M1 had also been closed.

Half of the first floor of the building was alight, London Fire Brigade said.

TfL urged motorists to use alternative routes while the Met Police warned road closures were “likely to severely affect North Circular, Staples Corner and other key routes into morning rush hour”.

“Drivers should avoid the area,” it added.
