Cape Town – Police are investigating a case of murder after a Grade 10 pupil was stabbed outside the Crystal Secondary School in Hanover Park on Wednesday.

The victim, who cannot be identified yet, was rushed to Hanover Park Day Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The teenager was a pupil at Crystal High School.

Police spokesperson Captain Noloyiso Rwexana said it’s too early to confirm whether the incident was gang-related.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. An 18-year-old man was stabbed and the suspect that is involved in this incident is yet to be arrested.

“He died on his way to a medical facility. Police are following up on leads in an effort to bring the perpetrators to book.

“We appeal to the community. Anyone with more information is requested to contact Crime Stop.”

Bronagh Hammond, spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), said: “The WCED will engage with the school regarding counselling assistance.”
