Cape Town – Residents of the Cape Metropole, Overberg and south-western Winelands should prepare for heavy rains and possible flooding overnight, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned.
According to SAWS, the wet weather is expected to hit at around 10 pm and will continue at least until Friday morning. The warning, issued on Thursday afternoon, comes after days of unseasonably cool weather and scattered thundershowers.
The service has warned of severe thunderstorms with hail, strong winds and heavy downpours east of Madikgetla in Limpopo, moving in a south-easterly direction towards Smithfield in the Free State.
Severe thunderstorms have also been forecast for t he southern parts of Harry Gwala and Ugu in KwaZulu-Natal with possible hail and strong gusty winds moving eastwards. eThekwini is also expected to experience heavy downpours.
Gauteng can expect thunderstorms on Thursday, while the Northern Cape will experience fine weather over most parts of the province with the exception of De Aar where thunderstorms are forecast and Springbok which is expected to get some light rain.
